Welcome!

If you're just coming here for the first time, uh... you're late. The site is no longer updated daily (see HERE for the story). But it's still kicking a few times a month, and it's better late than never! Most reviews nowadays are labeled "FTP:" and you should read THIS PRIMER to understand why. Also, while they're marked nowadays, many of the site's older reviews (i.e. 2010 or older) do contain unannounced spoilers, so tread carefully! Thanks for coming by and be sure to leave comments, play nice, and as always, watch Cathy's Curse.

  7. Hi BC,

Just discovered your blog this afternoon via Blogger's "Blogs of Note" feature. Horror Movie A Day is the first blog they've mentioned I've actually spent more than two minutes exploring. I like your style. And obviously I dig horror films too.

My first? Food of the Gods. I think I was ten or eleven. Haven't seen it since. Next was Jaws then One Dark Night with Meg Tilly and then Nightmare on Elm Street.

I enjoyed reading your review of Ginger Snaps, which I discovered a year ago via Bitch Magazine, which championed the movie as feminist horror.

I'd like to read what you think of Feast, which was the last horror film I saw that pissed me off (other than the remake of Hills Have Eyes 2, simply because it was terible.)

Also, have you seen/reviewed I Spit on Your Grave? I didn't see it in your reape/revenge category, and really I thought it was the original in the genre. No?

Anyway, thanks again. I'll add Horror Movie A Day to my blog roll and will be back to read more reviews.

    Peace.

  8. I have never seen Spit... the DVD is always like 30 bucks. I have a cap of 10 for a movie I haven't seen.

I dig Feast a lot but it needs to be seen with a crowd. When I watch it at home i get kind of bored because it's so nonstop (i know that sounds odd but its true - need to build up to something). But with a crowd, everyone cheering and yelling, it's a masterpiece. Still pissed Dumbension dumped it the way they did. Oh well.

  9. It's been a while since I've seen a horror movie. They don't make them like they use to.

Congrats on becoming a blog of note, BC!

  10. Oh yeah, noticed you're Meat Loaf Jim Steinman fan. I have 3 of their music videos on my blog with lyrics. Thought you would like to know.

    Have a nice weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Loaf and Steinman together create a force so powerful not even God himself could stop it. Sadly they won't work together anymore. But Steinman reads (or has read) this very blog, which is pretty much all the validation I ever needed!

  12. Cool! Maybe he'll like my blog, nothing but music videos. Designed the template myself, but it still needs some work.

  13. I love the concept and I'm a huge horror movie buff BC. A horror movie a day? Dayum! That is commitment. Now on to the archives. Here's a horror flick for you: How about, Mothers Day? the closing scene with Queenie jumping out from behind the brush has still stuck with me all these years.

I've added this site to my blogroll. I plan to be back again and again! C you soon. And you've got to hit the people with a comic con review. I've got mine up on my site. lata!

  14. As if you don't get enough... here are some suggestions... Also, I don't promise that they are good movies... But I love crappy horror, so what do I know!

    Orgy of the Dead
    Stage Ghost
    Horror Hotel
    Slaughter High

    Enjoy!

Great blog!! Looking forward to reading all of your posts. I have you linked off of my blog, www.notliableforyourstupidity.blogspot.com. I just watched *The Messengers* tonight and thought it blew.

  18. Oh, and I saw *I Spit On Your Grave* when I was 12 or 13...it really wasn't a horror movie. More like a soft porn.

  19. Hahaha Messengers... when we saw it and the two guys started brokebacking out I lost it, and after a few min the whole theater was laughing. great time. can't remember a damn thing about the movie anymore now.

  20. Good Lord, it was so bad I didn't even notice that. It had such a fantastic cast - really, how did it go wrong???

    ReplyDelete
  21. This is a fascinating idea. I admire your persistence and dedication!

    ReplyDelete
  22. So you seem to be an interesting person. I read some of your blogs. You really seem to know what your doing. Wanna help me out?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sure, but only because the name of your blog is a Nine Days lyric. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. For some reason I didn't do it (watched another movie the day I saw it). Maybe if I watch it again. It was OK, nothing special. Wasn't really horror until the last 10 min or so when the guy basically turned into Michael Myers. Even had the same jumpsuit!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Have you seen the movie "Cannibal Holocaust"??That's the scariest movie I've ever seen and I hate cannibal freakin' films (except hannibals)...hehe nice blog!!keep it up!!c",)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, I saw it last year on a double bill with... blah, one of the Fulci ones. Gates of Hell i think. Anyway, I loved it. I had the DVD in my hand last night but 30 bucks is out of my price range... the budget pack has forever spoiled me.

  27. I have searched awhile ago in imdb.com that there's a remake of the film "cannibal holocaust" and it will be open in the year 2009.
As a horror movie addict, what's your scariest movie of all time??

    ReplyDelete
  28. I never really picked one... some that freaked me out are Blair Witch, Halloween obviously, and actually Mothman Prophecies. Then some others provided great jump scares - the first Scream, Halloween 5 when I first saw it (11 years old), the Ring, and Hatchet. But really, I don't get scared easily from movies.

  29. Great blog!

On may 3, you mention the movie The Boogey Man. You put it in nice perspective. It was the first horror movie I ever saw and for years it scared me terribly. Silly, eh? Strange how a little bit of broken mirror can affect emotion.

  30. I have a question about a movie I just watched yesterday by Clive Barker called "The Plague". It stars James Van Der Berk(sp) and 80s icon Dee Wallace Stone of "ET" and "The Howling" fame. My question is why the kids stopped their killing rampage/soul sucking after getting their hands on James Van Der what's his name? I know it had something to do with him being a willing victim, but wasn't the Mom (aka Dee Wallace Stone)a willing victim to her daughter first since she released the daughter by untying her hands? I am so confused.

  96. I just got back from the Shocker screening. What's wrong with you? That movie was complete garbage. There some neat concepts brought up but they were so poorly executed it was agony. Such a waste. That script needed a rewrite worse then the Bible. I can see why Peter Berg doesn't act anymore. I understand why most of the guests at the screening, including Wes Craven, hadn't seen the movie since it came out. It's an embarrassment. Quit wasting your life with this movie. You're going to end up alone, because no girl (or person for that matter) in their right mind would like this movie.

    Fuck you.

I actually worked on it as PA, Scripty, and 2nd AC (can you tell it was low budget?). It was lots of fun to film but it was awesomely bad. I don't know if you'd agree but you should check it out for yourself. It's available on Instant Netflix. Let me know what you think. It'd be interesting to see what other people thought of it besides the people I know who worked on it (like myself). Cheers!

  114. Hey I'm new at this and just discovered your blog and right away started searching the horror movies I like.
I really enjoyed your post on The Exorcist pack, I feel the same way about the added scenes to the 2000 version and about the Score I think they did a great job in placing in only overa few bit, everytime I hear it I picture Ellen Burstyn walking on the street and watching Karras like they burned that damned image to my head and also subsequently I picture Reagan and I feel like watching the movie.
I recommend you to read the book if you ever get the time, it gives you a different approach (your own judgement) and two options: Possesion or Dementia. Of course with more evidence -on both sides- than the movie.
I just started a blog and is about movies -not horror- but anyway, hope you have the time to check it out.
I kind of hate to advertise myself but if I don't then I'll go broke or whatever happens if no one visits hahaha...

  162. Hey I love reading your blog, and I have found some great horror movies by doing so. One thing though, is there a page somewhere on this blog that lists your recommended/favourite horror films? I've found that I really like a lot of the films you like, but am fairly new to the horror genre so am happening across a lot of duds in my quest for the perfect film.

  168. Great blog. I wonder if you know the name of this movie. I saw it in the 80s. It's about a plant in a flower pot that is a witness to a murder (I'm not joking). A scientist (I think) woman can measure the plants reaction to the presence of different people to try to find the killer. There'sa murder in an elevator. That'about all I remember. As a horror expert, do you know the name of this movie. I'd like to re-watch it.

  170. Stumbled across your blog this afternoon and absolutely fell in love. It actually inspired me to fill my upcoming dismally empty weekend with a non-stop horror movie marathon. However, as a Stephen King lover I obviously had to go through and see which movies you had seen/reviewed. I read the Intro, but I was curious as to whether you have seen Rose Red, and what your thoughts were regarding it?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Just found this site while searching for reviews of The Collapsed. I pretty much agree with your take on that movie, and love what you have going on here. My own blog, which I rarely post to, has my versions of reviews of horror movies by franchise. The movie a day thing is a nice touch.

  174. Seriously? I'm post number 206. Why do I even bother? Per your instructions, I read the intro, the faq, the movies you've seen, the horror genre, and yes, even the glossary terms(Puppets? Really? That's hilarious.), and I laughed out loud in my room and no one's even here to hear me. You're funny. Thanks for that. And even though I'm afraid to admit it, oh sheez, this is tough, how can I say it without sounding like a dumbass.....can I change this font to 2? I like Halloween Resurrection. I like that Jamie's a mom, like me, and I like Josh Hartnett. I think he's a doll. And don't you even like the cut where she sees Michael through the door window? Or when she's running down the hall and shouts that he's her brother and to just try and stay alive? dang. how disappointing. Halloween, the original, is my favorite movie of all time. Well, that and Jaws. But have you ever figured out what she did with the keys? Just seems like something we should know. I never saw them fall out of her pocket. Did you? And I've watched it probably 30 or 40 times, and I keep looking. Anyway, with 206 comments, I doubt you're even going to see this. So I'll stop now. Well, after I tell you how glad I am I found your site. What a pleasure. Until next time. Keep those fires stoked.

  175. Seriously? I go on about not wanting to sound like a dumbass, and what do I do? Sound like a dumbass. I confessed to liking Halloween Resurrection, and I haven't even seen it! I totally got it mixed up with H20, which if you don't like that either, I guess I still sound like a dumbass, but at least, I'm writing about the right movie! I work at a library, and we have a donate a book or dvd shelf, which I peruse from time to time, and low and behold, what is there? Halloween Resurrection! In pristine condition, no doubt, like you said, in no uncertain terms fell into the Crap genre. I looked at the cover and thought, "why, you dumbass. That's not H20. I couldn't bring myself to watch Resurrection when it came out. Tyra? Really? I mean I love her....on the runway. Anyway, did I pick it up? Yes. I have to watch it now in order to concur with your assessment, but I expect it'll soon be back on the donation shelf. It's gonna be a long night.
