But, (spoiler) I did not see her actual death coming. It was a decent twist. Not much. And not enough to justify the remake, but it was something.

Also, you were confused about Des' mention of "David" (I think you meant Peter) not being able to keep his dick in his pants. I think you missed the scene shortly after Barbie's "death" where Des looks through Barbie's texts and discovers one from Peter.Miskatonichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10458189434988263478noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-57319895209184066632010-09-26T00:53:41.866-07:002010-09-26T00:53:41.866-07:00Ok.

The 1st April Fool's Day is in my top 5 of "favorite movies of all time". This includes the ending, which I was/am extremely happy with. The original had a quality to it that I haven't seen in most films I've watched. Most of that has to do with the characters as you did note their compatibility. The building of the characters was, while still stereotypical, a nearly class-worthy example of how it should be done in a movie. The music and imagery blended well with the pace and the acting - while not Oscar level, was appropriately wonderful for the genre. I could go on but thanks for at least saying "it was fun".

Now, I'm not a fan of remakes. I despise the recent NOEM disaster (original my #1). I feel ill with what RZ did to Halloween. I also can't honestly say that this remake of AFD came ANYWHERE near the original's sublime experience.
However, I think you've been overly judgmental on this one as I found it entertaining in it's own right. There were..touches of honor.. to the original that I found appealing. The sets were lovely as well as the characters. I never felt the urge to ff through any of the parts (I came closest on the initial News piece - that WAS bad). While the deaths WERE a little too obvious, they had some humor and everything moved along at a decent pace. And the ending? I didn't expect what they did. I'm actually quite surprised myself that this never made the theaters as it's as good or better than anything H-wood can dish out these days and I think teens would have found it quite fun. I mean, the re-make of Prom Night!?! THAT never should have made the theaters, but it did. While this isn't a "Good" movie with a capital "G", I found myself enjoying it with a itty bitty dollop of suspense to boot. It could have benefited greatly from some patience and better scripting. And OMG are you right about Cole - I kept thinking "Charisma's little sister??" Bizarro - even the same hairstyle that CC wore sometimes on Angel.

Oh, and Psycho '98 - you're spot on about that - Heche looked the part well, but other than that - why did they even bother? I get the whole "tribute" thing, but they just shouldn't mess with the classics. I guess whatever makes a buck these days...jonasnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-79064512993524008912010-07-16T13:18:26.737-07:002010-07-16T13:18:26.737-07:00I actually own this movie, and watch it regularly....I actually own this movie, and watch it regularly. I think that says something about the state of horror creativity these days.

I never liked the original that much (ending ruined it, like you said), but I'm sure I'd rather pay $8 to see it on the big screen than rent this one for 49 cents. The Vicar of VHShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06832137990485130735noreply@blogger.com
