Why do witches have to wear all black and spike their hair? And they had to cackle numerous times. And why are there so many- I thought the over taking of the city was a little too rapid. One witch mother gets naked and suddenly the city is swarmed with cackling brutes?

I missed the rich color of the blood and mystery of finding out what the whole deal was. I think with Suspiria and Inferno we never got that inside look into the society of witches, and now here we are suddenly partaking in an unveiling ceremony. It's like spying on a sorority's secret iniation ceremony- I just don't want to know. The mystic of the witches and what they do is best revealed at the end when their true intentions are unleashed.

Also I thought the whole mother reappearing as a ghost was just too hokey for me, and nothing not even cats feasting on human flesh or that embarrasing tongue war in Suspiria can top that hokiness.

The baby's flight though, amazing.Andrehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05429322588091791426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-77947824822759723052008-09-26T08:36:00.000-07:002008-09-26T08:36:00.000-07:00i liked it! regardless of the baby killings :(i liked it! regardless of the baby killings :(Miss Kolleenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06606373833828939892noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-51451077059152792962008-06-09T06:54:00.000-07:002008-06-09T06:54:00.000-07:00I've been a big fan of Argento since the 80s and I...I've been a big fan of Argento since the 80s and I was really looking forward to seeing this film as well, despite the bad reviews. I thought it was ok too, but not a patch on the two previous films in the series.

It just didn't have the creepiness and weirdness of Suspiria or Inferno. As a standalone film, it was ok, but as the final chapter of the three mothers series it was sorely lacking.

Where was the atmosphere? Where were the set pieces? The strange lighting?

If you look at the appearance of Mater Lacrimarum in Inferno and compare it with what we have of her here I think you'd have to agree that the new one isn't a patch on the first witch. Where's the elegance? Where's the presence? All we have now is some half naked woman who could be anyone. She doesn't radiate the power that the witch does in Inferno. It's just kind of tacky and cheap. Maybe Argento meant it to be that way, who knows.

Asia's acting also lacked a bit, especially when the ghost of her dead mother disappears and she's crying "don't go, mum" or something along those lines. As my actor/director friend would say: "I'm just not believing it!"

And what the fuck were they guffawing about in the final scene? I thought at first it was a nod to the end of Inferno, but it was so very OTT I don't know.

The scenes of mindless rioting and slaughter in Rome also seemed somehow tame and lacking in atmosphere.

The gore was good though. Throwing the baby off the bridge and having it hit the side was a masterpiece.pot head pixiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04043225264662244387noreply@blogger.com
