I think stand-alone it sounds great but it took me out of the movie so many times.Rikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04205172953473507574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-43143571225821331452015-04-24T17:00:31.739-07:002015-04-24T17:00:31.739-07:00On the final shot, I actually wondered if they wer...On the final shot, I actually wondered if they were leaving it ambiguous as to whether it was the monster walking behind them or not. Whoever/whatever it was on the sidewalk in the background definitely seemed to walk at the same pace, but it also seemed to be a bit more fluid, like a normal pace that your average person would walk with. It was also out of focus, leaving me to wonder whether it WAS the monster or not.Two Tickets For...https://www.blogger.com/profile/02475330757272632337noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-75054027277924915062015-04-05T09:31:55.722-07:002015-04-05T09:31:55.722-07:00it's not about STDs, the STD thing is super ov...it's not about STDs, the STD thing is super overemphasized and isn't actually that relevant to their actions/thoughts/the movie's themes.

It's much clearer when you understand it as the kids' burgeoning understanding of their own mortality. All the characters are certainly at the right age to be having that realization, and they're consistently thinking back to more innocent times in their childhood. Jay is realizing that death is always coming for her- maybe miles away, and you can outrun it all you want, but it will get you in the end.

I mean, they basically say it a couple times, and the poem/The Idiot quotes throughout are specifically about this idea. The ending is a whole lot more satisfying this way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-9075418416038265882015-03-30T09:08:54.166-07:002015-03-30T09:08:54.166-07:00Playing Monday morning quarterback... since the mo...Playing Monday morning quarterback... since the monster (?) is apparently strong but not infinitely so, why not trap it in like a bank vault or a pit full of quick dry cement? (Spidey used the latter tactic on the Juggernaut one time.)Chance Shirleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18357505066900410563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-38302682049120854172015-03-30T06:19:43.635-07:002015-03-30T06:19:43.635-07:00This movie was awesome and I wish they had adverti...This movie was awesome and I wish they had advertised it like they did with Lazarus Effect which was fucking garbage.
This is probably my favourite horror movie now and I am definitely old enough to not worry about catching an STD. For me the visual feel of the movie is what really stuck with me. Soundtrack too.

SleepyweaselAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-51030830017914700372015-03-29T21:18:51.642-07:002015-03-29T21:18:51.642-07:00I felt the opposite about the ending. I thought it...I felt the opposite about the ending. I thought it was pretty much perfect. You have the couple, happy and content, walking down the road and there in the distance is the curse following them. It's the same for any couple living with an STD like HIV. It's always there in the distance, and someday it will catch up to them and that will be that. It felt like it ended on a note of inevitability but one they (our protagonists) had decided to live with and be as happy as possible with given the circumstances. However, couldn't stand the majority of the characters. And I'm glad you mentioned the boat idea. I kept thinking about that a lot. While she was presumably getting gang banged on one she didn't think that maybe that was a good idea.

The score had the opposite effect on me. It was overbearing to the point where I felt it had to be on purpose.

I really wanted to like it but it just didn't work for me. Always excited for indie horror to do well at the box office. Hopefully it will lead to better things down the pipeline.Jonathanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09548468568645800735noreply@blogger.com
