I watched Babadook last night and, like an old habit, jumped on here and read your review as soon as the movie was over.

I remembered you mentioned a curiosity for the meaning of the name "Babadook," when I came across this article this morning. I had to share it. Plenty of other interesting stuff about the movie mentioned here as well. Anyways, check it out and thanks for keeping HMAD alive brother!

It is from Rolling Stone, and the article claims that, "The name, which Kent invented, is a riff on "babaroga," the Serbian name for the boogeyman."

Read more: http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/features/the-story-behind-the-babadook-20141127#ixzz3Z4vqrXhw
Follow us: @rollingstone on Twitter | RollingStone on Facebookdymripnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-27180123578072580572015-05-01T02:52:39.099-07:002015-05-01T02:52:39.099-07:00Never picked up on the she-wrote-the-book-herself ...Never picked up on the she-wrote-the-book-herself clues, but it makes sense to me I guess. I saw the movie working more as a metaphor than an actual scary movie (although I was definitely freaked out at times.) You could watch the movie and replace the word -babadook- with -abusive parent- and it would pretty much be the same. (At least, that's how I interpreted it.) Until she gets that thing in check she's a mess of a parent. So the scary story coming from her checks out.Rikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04205172953473507574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5110147752122772426.post-55233865814367125592015-04-20T20:48:04.266-07:002015-04-20T20:48:04.266-07:00This was a cool flick, and in ways reminded me of ...This was a cool flick, and in ways reminded me of (my own) 'Fear of the Dark'.
