I loved this movie. I thought it was fantastic because a) the "twist" is not shoehorned in like you so often see, but actually holds up on repeat viewings--more than that, it DEEPENS on repeat viewings, actually making a second viewing richer once the twist is known, and b) it was fucking scary.
I mean, you get two horror movies for the price of one--the psychological horror, which is fucked up and brilliantly executed, and then also the supernatural horror, because in addition to the sister(s) being crazy there ACTUALLY IS this horrible armrest-clutching haunting going on in the house (the scene where the mother hauls herself up by the bed, by the noose, still gives me shivers), which kicks ass.
I don't know why I don't own this on dvd yet. May have to rectify that one.
yeah I went to the IMDb and found a post explaining the whole movie to me. I wasn't expecting it to be that much of a mind trip deal... i think you gotta be in the mood for those movies. I thought it would just be another 'creepy japanese kid avid farting around the house' type movie.
hi, i just found your blog, so my apologies if i'm just repeating...
i really dug this movie. i might have to rent it again. i'm having a hard time remembering exactly the story. but the atmosphere is great and the colors and acting are perfect. it's like a candy or something, that you just enjoy the experience of. if no one's pointed you here yet, check out snowblood apple for other asian horror movie recs. i'm enjoying your blog a lot, so i hope that helps you keep up the pace!
Visit the Wiki page for some sort of explanation. This film was quite creepy but I can't decide if I actually enjoyed it, every time I thought I knew what was going on it went in a different direction, nothing is explained and it seems to be a series of events stuck together with no real meaning or correlation.
I definately need to watch this film again, I think it's better than my initial impression.
