Best/Worst of November!

I know I haven't exactly been keeping up on doing these every month (last one was in May I think?), but I figure with the Holidays around the corner, folks might be looking for some ideas for the horror fan who already has all the usual suspects (seriously, I love when a well-meaning aunt buys me like, Halloween. Yeah, I need a 5th copy). So anyway, here's my top (and bottom) picks for the month of November!

Enjoy!

(NOTE - by "new" I mean a film released on DVD or in theaters within that month or very late in the month before, and old is anything before that and widely available on DVD. Movies that are not yet or no longer widely available are ineligible.)

NOVEMBER 2008

BEST NEW MOVIE: The Substitute
BEST OLD MOVIE: The Car

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Re-Cycle, Waxwork, Die You Zombie Bastards!, Twilight (man, slow month)

WORST NEW MOVIE: None! All of the newer movies I saw were decent.
WORST OLD MOVIE: The Graveyard

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Leprechaun In The Hood, Lost Voyage, The Tattooist

May Picks!

Now that June is almost half over, let's recap the best and worst I endured during the fine month of May. As usual (can you say usual for the 2nd edition of a column?), NEW refers to a movie that is still in theaters or is new to DVD in the past month, and old refers to anything older than that. All titles are readily available; unreleased/out of print films are not eligible. Also, "Non Canon" reviews aren't included, because other than incredibly rare occasions, those tend to be great movies (which is why I am rewatching them) anyway.

MAY 2008

BEST NEW MOVIE: The Strangers
BEST OLD MOVIE: Phenomena

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Them (Ils), The Cottage, Sick Nurses

WORST NEW MOVIE: Botched
WORST OLD MOVIE: The Off Season

HONORABLE MENTIONS: The Cave, The House of Usher, Godsend

April Picks!

Here's a new, hopefully ongoing feature at Horror Movie A Day, suggested by Chris, who has the distinction of being my first non-person-I-told-to-read-it regular reader! Each 1st or 2nd day of the month, I will post the names of the two best and two worst movies I saw the previous month (one "new", one "old"). That will hopefully help you poor souls who only watch a couple movies a month make an informed decision (and by informed I mean - agreeing with me, which no one should ever do).

Enjoy!

(NOTE - by "new" I mean a film released on DVD or in theaters within that month or very late in the month before, and old is anything before that and widely available on DVD. Movies that are not yet or no longer widely available are ineligible.)

APRIL 2008

BEST NEW MOVIE: The Ruins
BEST OLD MOVIE: The Pit

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Mulberry St, Black House, Bedlam, The Sadist

WORST NEW MOVIE: Grizzly Park
WORST OLD MOVIE: Scarecrow Slayer

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Lake Dead, Loch Ness Terror
